If you are not familiar with rangefinders, please review the following basic information.

Rangefinders will help you in several ways...any one of which would be enough to justify their cost.

  • Know your distances to the green and pin
  • Know your distances to sand traps, trees, and other hazards
  • Know exact lay ups
  • Shave strokes off your score
  • Save time (no need to hunt for markers or pace off shots)

Lasers vs. GPS

Lasers and GPS devices cost about the same, so which is better? Opinions vary, but we strongly recommend GPS's for several reasons.

Lasers are very accurate, but they require line of site to the pin, are heavier and bulkier, and take longer to use before each shot. They basically provide distances to the pin, but not to trees, traps, or lay ups. While their accuracy is a little finer, that is not a usable advantage because most of us can't control our shots to within 2 or 3 yards. In other words, if you knew a shot was 167 rather than 170, would it change your club selection, or would you swing differently? Not me. I'm not that good.

GPS devices use satellites to measure distances from where you are standing to the green and various points along the fairway. They are much more versatile than lasers.

  • GPS's are smaller and lighter
  • GPS's are faster to use...they provide instant distances
  • GPS's do not require line-of-site...they can measure over hills and around corners
  • GPS's provide distances to much more than the pin. They also measure to the front and back of traps, to trees, to the front and back of water, and to lay-up positions.

With a GPS Rangefinder, your game will improve because you will know which club to use, and you will use it with confidence...a combination that will change your game!

So the next question is which GPS device to get? We have spent a lot of time using and reviewing the best devices on the market. Based on our evaluation, two brands and models have risen to the top, and we offer them to our customers for the lowest price on the web.

OnPar Color GPS Touch Screen Rangefinder

Lowest Price on the Internet for OnPar GPSOnPar is the new sleek device that is designed with similar technology to the iPhone. You can see the entire fairway on a large bright 3.5"screen, and zoom in on the green or any other features. Not only does it show distances to primary points, you can touch the screen anywhere, and it will tell you how many yards to that point. For instance, you can touch in front of a trap to know how far to lay up without any danger. Or you can touch beyond a trap to see what it takes to carry it. It is, without question, the most versatile GPS device on the market.

Major Features

  • The OnPar has no membership, mapping, or subscription fees.
  • Touch and drag target placement anywhere
  • Keep score and keep track of greens in regulation, putts, and other stats
  • The OnPar will keep track of how far you hit your various clubs, and will suggest clubs based on that REAL data

The biggest disadvantage of the OnPar as compared to the Golf Buddy is that it is a newer device and company and they don't have as many courses mapped. They are adding over 1,000 per month, so they will catch up. But your familiar home courses might not yet be in their system, so you may have to request that they map them.

You can learn more about the OnPar Touch Screen GPS and see which local courses are mapped on their website at www.onpargps.com.

Other Features

  • Flush Mounted LCD with touchscreen technology that can be touched with finger, gloved finger, golf tee or pencil
  • 3.5” direct sunlight readable display with color golf course maps
  • Touch and drag target placement on hole or green
  • One-touch tracking of each stroke location, distance, and club used
  • High contrast drawn course map files for optimal viewability
  • Pin Sheet accuracy capable
  • Tracks a users history to auto generate current club suggestions
  • Automatically tracks fairway and green stats
  • Tracks GIRs: how close you land to a flag on average and percentage of putts that are long left, short right, etc.
  • Shows path of shot, club used and distance
  • Keeps track of score, number of putts, placement of putts and penalties
  • User can revise the score as needed at anytime
  • Shows time
  • Easy touch-slide to zoom to the detail view you need
  • Intuitive, easy to read status and information bar

  • USB Cable
  • Quick Start Guide
  • Note: Does NOT include a belt clip which is available for an additional $19.95 ($24.95 from the manufacturer)
